Christmas baubles to Powertex or not to Powertex

Christmas Baubles

This week I have been teaching Bauble decorations. Some are decorated with Powertex Stone Art, Some are decorated with Powertex liquid hardener and some are decorated with plain old tissue paper but they all have Sue Wilson Xmas die cuts on them.

The one on the left is tissue and die cut card, the one in the middle is Powertex hardener and the one on the right is Stone art powder and bister.

I wanted to show that die cuts can be incorporated into the Powertex mix.

This one is done with Tissue paper, Black paint , Micaceous Iron Oxide and silver paint.

Nicely held up for the camera by Jean Pierre the mutant Zombie ( you will meet him later).

Latest Powertex Fabric Sculpture Jenna

Hello again , I know its been a while since I posted but I've been a bit busy with work and holidays.

This weekend we have had the pleasure of teaching a Powertex fabric sculpting workshop at That Craft Place Ltd a lovely shop in Polegate, Eastbourne. Our hosts Lisa and Danny and all the ladies made us most welcome . I can honestly say that both Heather and I had a fantastic time , all the sculptures turned out fantastic and all the ladies should be proud of what they made .

This is Jenna, This is my instructional piece from the day and I'm quite happy with the way she evolved . I'm not sure yet if she is staying like this . She may get the " Verdigris treatment". I'll keep you posted.

I thought I would show pictures of the back as nobody ever seems to and our sculptures had as much attention to detail on the back as they did on the fronts.

These are pictures of the finished statues from my latest statue workshop. Everyone of the ladies made a fantastic job of their statue but as usual the pictures don't do them justice, so you'll just have to take my word for it .

This is Princess Bongi , made using the Powertex head Thulani from the African series. She is made using Bronze fabric Hardener and all natural fibre materials. I think she turned out quite well.

The ladies did a mix of winged figures and non-winged figures. They all used the Grace head and all started with the same raw products , how different they all look .

Metal Embossing Wooden Trinket Box

Repousse Decorated Box

A great workshop from the summer , This is a workshop I taught in the summer. It was done for a group of ladies at Crafty Moments in Market Weighton .

The inside of the box is lined using a faux leather technique.

The outside of the box is painted first with black and then red oxide acrylic paint .

once the paint is dry the two layers are then sanded through to expose some of the metal.

The art of Repousse is the art of metal embossing or metal chasing, usually by hand . On this workshop we embossed both by hand and then using an embossing machine .

The top of the box is pictured above this is hand embossed with hand done faux rivets.

The front of the box hand scooched and machine embossed.

Waste not want not

whenever I am working on a Powertex piece I try to have a small piece to work on at the same time . By doing this I minimise waste , any surplus material or Powertex Hardener goes onto the secondary piece.

That's how this piece came about whilst making a garden plaque the off cuts of material and excess bronze hardener were used to create this lovely secondary piece.

The offcuts of chain were embedded into Glossy accents so that they kept their metallic appearance.

Latest Shabby Chic Dimensional Scrapbook

This is the latest in a long line of Shabby Chic dimensional scrap/storage books made using Craft Consortium Decoupage posy paper (CCDECP232)

The book is built from scratch explaining the mechanics of the dimensional book

before being decorated in a shabby chic style.

this particular one has magnetic sheets on every other page so it can be used as a die storage book .

Muggly The Powertex Soup Mug

"Muggly"

This is Muggly he is a soup mug that Heather decorated with Bronze Powertex Fabric Hardening Medium and scraps of fabric and ribbon. There is also a few plaster of Paris embellishments tucked in there as well.

He's quite a cool character we are on the look out for more soup mugs to join his family.

Learning a new skill

Silicone Moulding

Learning a new technique is always great fun and anything that can further my crafting and help with future workshops has got to be advantageous. The brown Egyptian head is a latest car boot find, it's actually carved from a piece of coal. I had purchased the silicone to try and mould my own pieces for workshops. This was quite a large first attempt, but wow how cool did it turn out. The white heads are the reproduction pieces I moulded from plaster of Paris. The detail is great and crisp. Next step - to try a resin head. Watch this space for further experiments.

Finished Powertex Garden plaque "Bordeaux"

The Bordeaux Fairy

This is another of my Powertex garden plaques , this one is called Bordeaux .

It is a 10" x 10" MDF panel with 2 mini plaques attached to create a dimensional composite. The fairy, rose and leaves are plaster of Paris and the dragonflies are metal embellishments.

The Background is done using T-shirt material and Bronze Powertex Hardener. The entire panel is colour washed with Powertex Easy Varnish and Bordeaux Powercolor. Finally I dry brushed using layers of the following colours until I got the result I desired. Powercolor White, Colortricx Silver and finally Colortricx Terraviolet.
