The Mannequinarium update on the making of Deirdre.......

Cutting head from mould.
This week saw me remove Deirdre's "head" from the mould
and attaching it to the "body" of the mannequin a chaotic process of building ,destroying and rebuilding
A slow process and at this stage she is quite
fragile but once she is patched up and attached to the body, she is ready for the next stage which is the plaster bandage reinforcing,

 which gives everything its integrity

Front view - no destruction visible!

"Alas poor Yorick, I knew him well"

I have been working in the Mannequinarium tonight, (pictures to follow soon), working on the Delilah's head. If you didn't know, Delilah is the latest mannequin. The head is now off the mould and the head and body are now one!

I have taken some pictures which I will upload shortly

Enjoy your extra second!

This is a small workshop compared to normal.  If you would like to do the canvas with a few friends rather than a large class, I can accommodate from 5 upwards. Check in later to find out how the day went.

Have fun in the sun .....

Let me know.

Picked up some great goodies since finishing Felicity and The Sewer Rat aka Ugly.,
Hoping to use them on the next mannequin.

Our Yorkshire Rose.
On a different note our first batch of roses have bloomed this week and are looking rather nice.

Felicity Prototype Mannequin Shelf unit

 Hi guys how's it going?

This is Felicity , I suppose she was the prototype to " the sewer rat " mannequin already featured on here .
I wanted this one functional so I turned it into a mini shelf unit .
What do you think ? quite cool eh?
I had lots of fun doing this as I also made the mannequin from scratch ( the first of many ).
It is made using a papier mache/ plaster bandage base and decorated with a steam punk theme as you can see.
All in all about 20 man hours went into this ,I think its worth it and although the pictures are pretty good they don't do her justice.

More Market Finds 07 June 2015

More great finds from the weekend.
First of all a lovely old fire screen which will work great as a standing frame for one of my canvasses

Secondly a great old manual Jones Consort sewing machine.
I only bought this because Heather loved and wanted the case.
but I'm sure I can use the sewing machine or swap it on for something that I can use.

Finally I saved the best till last a pre-war treadle sewing machine by Singer ,
I absolutely love this and have great plans for it.
The top will be coming off to be replaced by a solid wood top and this will become a bistro table
to enjoy on our patio.
If you frequent car boots , Flea markets and charity shops or you have some old bits in the house you think I might be able to use I am happy to buy or swap if I think its something I may be able to use.

Market Finds 07 June 2015 with John Glossop.

Quite a good day today, found some great objects,
Found some great mini metal picture frames these will look great on the gesso canvasses.
Also found a lovely little scent bottle some fantastic owl earrings a tiny swiss clock pendant with a working watch mechanism, three awesome broaches and a tiny teapot pendant.
I think the owl earrings are my favourite. I almost forgot I also came across a lovely vintage tin that used to contain dressmaking pins.

Heyup me dearies.
Off to the car boot this morning to restock on goodies (not used to having a full weekend off )for the gesso canvas workshop and ultimately to see if I can find anything to swap on or
use on my pieces.
Like any other mixed media artist I love car boots, flea markets and charity shops and usually find some really cool and usually weird objects, check in later and I'll show you what I found this weekend.
catch you ron.

Santa Pod VW Show April 2015

Rat Rods ...... we will have a Ratty one day......

Very cool and fun day out at the VW show  in Santa Pod. Some brilliantly customised vans on show, from the contemporary to the extreme and eccentric! It has always been my goal to have one of these vans and for those who know me and have checked out my blog,  "Ugly", would not look out of place in an extreme ratty!

We are currently looking for one to buy and customise, it is very time consuming looking through the ads to find our perfect van.... so watch this blog! It may be that we have to start out with something smaller and work up, but our goal is to definitely have one of these at some time. The more workshops I teach the sooner we can have one and then you'll see it because it will then become the "works van "

Take a look at the slide show these were some of our favourites.

Please feel free to leave your feedback and comments.

See ya later !

What am I up to this weekend, with Dreams of Vintopia?

30 May 2015

Today, I am at Craft-E-Liza Mansfield, with Meryle and her ladies, doing our Gesso canvas. We had a great workshop when we did our Butterfly canvas. Looking forward to seeing the various interpretations by the ladies.

31 May 2015

Today we will be at Kraftiz, with Julie for her Dabble Day. It was a great success last year and fabulous food and free gift bag to everyone who did the makes and takes. There were lots of new techniques to be learnt, looking forward to another great day on Sunday.

Metal Embossing, Box Workshop, by John Glossop.

John Glossop's Metal Embossed Samples.

My finished samples for the Metal Embossing Workshop at Grace's in Middlesbrough.

Faux rivets were used to add depth, then wrapped in the metal.

Here I used my interpretation of the faux leather technique to line the inside of the box, this is a favourite effect of mine.

Inside of the completed boxes, showcasing the faux leather.

*********

Thank you to Grace and her team for having us - the workshop and enthusiasm from all the ladies was brilliant, we had a great time, good food, lots of laughs, (not to mention a few blushes lol) and were all exhausted by the end of the day!
Looking forward to my next workshop with everyone back at Grace's in September 2015

JLT Crafts, Hinckley Workshop 29 March 2015, canvas taught by John Glossop.

Gesso Canvas Workshop Number 3 by Dreams of Vintopia

As the title says this is the third time I have taught this workshop. The thing is this one never seems to lose its appeal. I can honestly say I have enjoyed every one of these workshops. The latest being at JLT Crafts in Hinckley a lovely shop and a lovely bunch of ladies .
The thing is this workshop evolves at its own pace and direction. Each canvas inspires and affects the direction that all the other canvasses go in, that and the personal embellishments that each person brings, guarantees that each piece is, as it should be, unique.

Fabulous Finds ( Fountain Pen Nibs )

Fantastic find of the day

Those of you that now me will know that I'm a bit of a magpie, especially when it comes to old, rusty metal things . Now imagine my surprise when I stumbled across these goodies inside a little old typewriter ribbon tin, there are over 90 fountain pen nibs in this tin many of which are gold plated and most of them look like they haven't been used . Now I'm not greedy , if anybody would like any of these and have anything to swap , that you think I might like, feel free to message me .
Until then happy hunting

Shabby Chic Butterfly Frame by John Glossop

Another great workshop. The Shabby chic butterfly frame taught on Saturday the 28th of Feb at Craft-e-Liza in Mansfield. This is a favourite of mine and one that I've taught well over a dozen times now, a lovely bunch of ladies and a nice relaxed atmosphere. I can only speak for myself but I had a really enjoyable day with lots of laughs and lots of coffee ( made by Alan ). All the projects turned out really good .Check out their work below.
As ever feedback is welcomed and if you would like to do this workshop near you send me a message.
