Just Another Mannequin Monday?

 

Maniq Monday again

Hi Guys its Maniq Monday again not got much done this week. I've returned to work this week and been quite busy but what I have taken pictures of what I have done. Below is a picture of the ribbed crest that runs from the brow line to the nape. This will add texture and will look like cast iron by the time I've painted and textured it .

The decorative chest plate is courtesy of an ornate hinge which I've changed Slightly and I've impregnated a pressure gauge into the chest region

I am hoping to get some more of the head decorated this week so pop back next week for an update.

but I do have a metal workshop to prepare for and teach this coming weekend so i'll get do what I can.

A weekend away with my ladies 

 

 

 This weekend we spent in Blackpool , its the first time I have been there and not been on the rides ( still in recovery from my surgery) but I enjoyed it non the less with great company, my partner Heather and her son Jarred and my lovely daughter Beth.

 

Quite a few people on the beach Sunday doing the usual beachy type stuff.

Maniq Monday... ish  

 

Well things have moved on a little bit this week . I have screwed on the laminated shoulder pads.

I have fitted and padded out the cyclopean visor ( this came from an old marine boat siren I picked up somewhere )

The lights above the visor I think but I could be wrong came from an old carnival ride .I got quite a few in all different colours.

 The shoulder pads are decorated with two heavy duty vintage resistors from the 50's or 60's

Visor screwed on and then secured with Golden gel medium all open spaces were then patched in ready for filler

 I think the next stage will be to tidy up the rough areas using some fast drying filler. I am starting to think about how to decorate the head next , I have an idea but not sure if it will work . Watch this space to see what I do this week .

I know I know ... calm down not much to report but its Monday and that means a mannequin update, so here it is. The final paper cover has gone on and its been painted with black gesso.

 First stages of the making of the shoulder pads.

 

The shoulder pads start off as a hand drawn template, this is cut out and duplicated. The two templates are the re-enforced on the part that will overhang the shoulder ( it will make sense once they are attached). they are then stitched together with light gauge wire for added details.

 

Look at the photos of "Sewer Rat " and "Felicity2 for finished samples.



I found a whole new bunch of bits I would like to incorporate in some way or another.



Mannequin Monday 1o Aug 2015....

Deirdre is nearing the stage of decoration.....

Hi Guys sorry I've been getting behind on this project .Without boring you too much, I have gotten a bit bogged down. The post op recovery is going really well , everything looks like its healing really nicely, I am just feeling really tired. All that aside I have started work on Deirdre again but I think I need to be a bit more realistic and maybe maniq Monday will have to be every too weeks from now on, especially when I go back to work. From the other mannequins I have done this is the best time for me the laborious part of making the mannequin is over and now I can enjoy and let the creative juices do their job.

I have been through the goodie pile and pulled a few possible items to use on this mannequin I find this stage strangely exciting the minds eye takes over quite a bit at this stage . I may not use everything in this pile but I will definitely use some of these goodies and lots more

 



Mannequin Monday Update

Yeah I know its Tuesday not Monday but its been a bit of a hectic weekend, what with the arrival of Priscilla and my convalescence in its second week. Its getting exciting with Deirdre now she is on the last layer of paper as you can see, she will then be sealed and the fun can commence. I have a few ideas already . So watch this space.

 

On a different note we are off to the Pickering steam rally this coming weekend. I love these places and hopefully will bring back some great pictures and some cool bits from the jumble section.

The latest aquisition at Dreams of Vintopia

Not quite Mannequin Monday..........

Hi Guys, Hope you have all faired well in my absence? Well I am now a week post op and thought it was about time I started to do some light duties, light crafting/sculpting more like. If you are interested the op seems to have been a success but will know in a few weeks at my next consultation.

Right back to Mannequin duties .Deirdre has had her two coats of plaster bandage and is into the refining stages now. She will now have the following:  newspaper, tissue and then a final layer of newspaper this will help "to iron" out any large imperfections in the plaster layer.

Many thanks for taking a look I know its Monday and  that means Mannequin update .

Unfortunately I am going for surgery on Wednesday and so Deirdre has been neglected a little this week . If all goes well on Wednesday then I'll get double photos on next week.

Market Treasure 05 July 2015

Car boot loot from this Sunday...... we collected a nice little stash this weekend. We bought some lovely moulded items for gesso canvas's, a couple of ornate buckles from some belts, which we also salvaged some studs from. A very pretty humming bird pendant, a pretty picture frame with flower painting and some delicate little spoons.
I have to admit the stash is becoming a bit of a mountain at the moment we are buying stuff quicker than we can use it but you can never have too much stash.

Mannequinn Monday.....

Photo update on Deirdre......

She has had her head fitted and 2 coats of plaster bandage , I  know she doesn't look too great at the moment but trust me I've done this before.The next phase is to smooth her out with another layer of tissue and a couple more layers of newspaper. Then the fun bit starts!!

I know she looks like a munter at the mo but  she will be lovely

know but its a sequential process and this is just one stage

 

Workshop updates

No Bookings available till September 2015........

Thought it only right that I let people know why there are no workshops in my diary for the next couple of months

Unfortunately in a week or so I am going for surgery and hopefully fingers crossed I will be back in business around six weeks after the Op .

Hopefully everything will be straight forward and I'll be back
on my feet and back soon to doing light duties.

I'll post as and when I feel upto it.

The Mannequinarium update on the making of Deirdre.......







Cutting head from mould.

This week saw me remove Deirdre's "head" from the mould

and attaching it to the "body" of the mannequin a chaotic process of building ,destroying and rebuilding

A slow process and at this stage she is quite
fragile but once she is patched up and attached to the body,she is ready for the next stage which is the plaster bandage reinforcing,
 

 which gives everything its integrity

I have been working in the Mannequinarium tonight, (pictures to follow soon), working on the Delilah's head. If you didn't know, Delilah is the latest mannequin. The head is now off the mould and the head and body are now one!

I know there was some doubts as the canvasses progressed, but I've seen this all before and

I knew that the end result would be amazing

this is the third workshop we've done together and with another date in the diary

they have put me on the spot to come up with another challenging workshop

Whats on today at Dreams of Vintopia with John Glossop

Today I am at Birkley Garden Centre for a private workshop, teaching the gesso canvas, see the pictures below. We will be doing a variation of this.

 

 This is a small workshop compared to normal.  If you would like to do the canvas with a few friends rather than a large class, I can accommodate from 5 upwards. Check in later to find out how the day went.

Cragside carvings with John Glossop

What an amazing art form

 

 

On the 7th of September last year (Heathers Birthday)

 we went to Cragside House in Northumberland

and saw these amazing tree carvings
